PT XC HOSTING MEET: Pine Tree’s cross country program will host the Mike Darby XC Invitational on Friday at Lear Park in Longview.

The event, previously called the Pine Tree Puddle Jump and Pig Trot, will honor longtime cross country coach Mike Darby, who coached for 38 years at Pine Tree.

The meet will begin at 8 a.m. with varsity girls open (5K), followed by varsity boys open (5K) at 8:30 a.m., varsity girls 4A-1A (2 mile) at 9 a.m., varsity boys 4A-1A (5 K) at 9:30 a.m., JV girls 6A-1A (2 miles) at 10 a.m., JV boys 6A-1A (5K) at 10:30 a.m..

The junior high girls (2 mile) and junior high boys (2 mile) events are set for 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at Pine Tree Stadium.

KC HALL OF FAME: Kilgore College’s Hall of Fame Weekend will feature the annual Hall of Fame Golf Tournament at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 at Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater.

Cost is $90 per person or $175 per team for the two-man scramble. Cost includes lunch, a cap, cat and 18 holes of golf. Proceeds will benefit Kilgore College athletics.

The Hall of Fame induction dinner is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 at the Devall Student Center Ballroom on the KC campus. Open seating begins at 5:45 p.m., and cost is $25 per person.

This year’s inductees into the KC Athletics Hall of Fame will include the 1986-87 Women’s Basketball team, basketball players Aundrea Gamble and Trevor Diggs, football players Lane Johnson, Ricardo Colclough, former men’s basketball coach Scott Schumacher and contributor Jack Moore. The Spirit of Excellence Award recipient will be Olympic Bronze Medalist Sylvia Hoffman, a KC basketball player from 2007-2009.

Inductees will be introduced during halftime of KC’s 3 p.m. game against Cisco College on Oct. 1 at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.

ETHS BENEFIT: The first East Texas Homeschool Chargers golf tournament is set for 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24 at Wood Hollow Golf Course in Longview.

Team entry fee for the four-person scramble is $400 (four players plus four meals). Individual golfers ($125) will be placed on a team, and a meal is also included. The event features grand prizes and closest to the pin and long drive awards.

LETU BENEFIT: The LeTourneau University Athletics Department annual golf scramble fundraising event is changing its name to the Joyce Family Golf Classic.

The event will feature a pair of four-player scrambles, an auction and door prizes on Monday, Oct. 17 at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview. Flight 1 tees off at 8 a.m., and the afternoon session begins at 1:30 p.m. with lunch set from noon until 1 p.m. followed by door prizes and raffle drawings at 1:15 p.m.

LGSA WARM-UP: The Longview Girls Softball Association (LGSA) will host the 13th annual LGSA Ark-La-Tex High School Warm-Up Tournament Jan. 7-8. The event has a 40-team limit and will be held at Lear Park in Longview.

The tournament is for high school teams only. Junior varsity squads (4A, 5A and 6A) will play in the small school division. No select teams are allowed.

Entry fee is $200 for a four-game guarantee (2 pool play and a double elimination bracket). No pay at plate fees.

PINEYWOODS CLASSIC: The first Pineywoods Classic is set for Nov. 4-6 at Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater.

The event will feature a practice round, social hour and Calcutta on nov. 4 with competition set for Nov. 5 and Nov. 6.

Entry fee is $500 per team, with payout gross to first, second and third for each flight. Calcuta is 90% payout net to first, second and third for each flight.

Championship flight is 36 holes, four-ball. Second and third flight is 36 holes shamble. Flights determined by 50% of combined team handicap (must have confirmed GHIN handicap).
